Hing Hearing Assessments

At Hing Hearing, your journey to better hearing starts here. We offer two types of hearing assessments tailored to your needs – a Mini Hearing Assessment for a quick check-up, and a Full Hearing Assessment for comprehensive evaluation. We provide gentle, professional care in a welcoming environment.

Mini Hearing Assessment

Our mini hearing assessment (MHA) is a 30-minute appointment. It is the perfect starting point to find out more about the health of your ears.

During our MHA, the Audiologist will take a brief medical history, examine your ears with the high-definition video otoscope and perform a screening hearing test which can identify if there is any loss of hearing.

The MHA would identify if you have any ear wax and the Audiologist would give you advice about wax removal. If there is excessive ear wax, the Audiologist will not be able to complete the hearing test until the wax is treated.

If any other ear abnormalities are found, the Audiologist can make onward medical referrals.

  • Mini Hearing Assessment £41.50

Or free of charge to patients on our Eyes & Ears care plan.

Full Hearing Assessment

Our full hearing assessment (FHA) is a fully comprehensive 90-minute assessment of your hearing. This detailed appointment starts with a medical history and the Audiologist will discuss any current hearing challenges you are having. This enables the Audiologist to understand your personal hearing goals. It is helpful to bring along a family member or friend, to help with these discussions.

A hearing test is completed in a soundproof booth, measuring different ways sound is picked up (through the ear canal and bone conduction). The hearing test identifies if a hearing loss is present at different frequencies.

The Audiologist will explain the hearing test results on a graph called an audiogram. You will be advised if there is any reason to make an onward medical referral and a report will be sent to the relevant professionals.

In addition to the hearing test, some speech in noise testing is also completed.

Once the tests have been explained to you, if a hearing loss is identified, the Audiologist will offer you a hearing aid trial which is included in the cost of the appointment.

Hearing Aid Trials

An integral part of our full hearing assessment is that we give you the opportunity to try a pair of hearing aids, which will be programmed to your prescription during the appointment.

We have access to a wide range of hearing technology and believe that the best way for you to discover the benefits of hearing aids, is to take them away to try them in your own environment.

We know that getting the most out of hearing aids, takes time. The ears, (and brain) needs time to acclimatise to the new sounds around you, and you need to experience your new hearing in different situations and with the people who are most important to you. We can’t replicate your listening environments in our clinic, so we believe this real-life demonstration, is the best way for you to make an informed choice about your hearing.

The Audiologist will show you how to use the hearing aids and then you can take them home for couple of weeks to explore the benefits for yourself.

During the trial, the hearing aids collect some useful data to help the Audiologist recommend the right level of technology for your lifestyle when you return the devices.

If you decide after the trial, that the hearing aids aren’t beneficial for you at this time, the Audiologist can discuss a suitable recall option to continue to monitor your ear health or support you with other treatment options.

  • Full Hearing Assessment & Hearing Aid Trial £120

Or free of charge to patients on our Eyes & Ears care plan.
